Senior Assistant Fire Adviser, National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management

John Barry joined Dublin Fire Brigade in 1983, and also served in Cork County Fire Service, before joining the Department of Local Government. 

He has worked in a number of roles with the Department – including emergency management, training for fire services, regulation & standards for hazardous materials, critical incident stress management, capital & infrastructure for fire services, and fire safety  standards for the built environment. 

Recently, his significant projects have included the review of guidance for compliance with the fire safety requirements of Building Regulations, as well as implementation of a range of recommendations arising from a review of fire safety in Ireland, following the Grenfell Tower fire.
