Michael is a Chief Superintendent with Fire and Rescue NSW, currently as the Area Commander Metropolitan West. He was previously responsible for the Community Safety and Research portfolio for Fire and Rescue New South Wales where he led the Community Engagement, Fire Investigation and Research, Community Fire Unit and ComSafe (Commercial Safety Training) business units. These teams undertake education, research, data collection and analysis to inform and contribute to robust policy, investigative and community engagement frameworks to actively engage diverse communities in prevention and risk management for improved safety outcomes.
Michael is a Churchill Fellow – his fellowship project was on “strengthening support for non-fatal drowning survivors and improving community understanding of the morbidity issues associated with non-fatal drowning.”
Michael has also a history of non-profit organisation leadership as a Company Director, and a long history in injury prevention and health consumer advocacy with roles across the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation and NSW Clinical Excellence Commission. Chair of the Family and Consumer Council, and member of the Health Care Quality Committees.

Michael has been a member of FRNSW for over 31 years, and holds a Master of Business Administration, Graduate Diploma Exec Leadership (Police and Emergency Services), Graduate Diploma Social Science (Community Services), and Graduate Certificates in Applied Management, and Social Science (Emergency Services).
